How to change WhatsApp text format with codes

The first of the methods is the most practical if you have a good memory since it is much more agile to write a code around the word to edit than to select it, access the drop-down menus and select the type of text you prefer.

As we have anticipated, to edit a word you will only have to add a symbol at the beginning and at the end of each word. These will disappear while you write the message and when you send it, being replaced by the font format you have chosen.

These are the codes that you can use to change the text through WhatsApp:

  • Bold.- To highlight a word and make it appear in bold, you only need to add an asterisk (*) at the beginning and end of each word. For example, if we type * word * it will appear as a word in our conversation. We can also do the same with a whole phrase, it will only be necessary to start the phrase with an asterisk and end it with an asterisk.

  • Italics.- If what we want is for a word or phrase to appear in italics in our conversation, start it with an underscore (_) and end it with an underscore. For example, if we write _word_ it will appear as a word in our conversation. The same will happen with the whole of a sentence if we start it with an underscore and also end it with an underscore.

  • Crossed out.- In the same way as in the previous examples, if we want to cross out a word or phrase during a WhatsApp conversation, it will be necessary to use the virgulillas (~). If you are using WhatsApp for PC, you can easily type this symbol by pressing Alt + 126. For example, if we type ~ word ~ it will appear as ̶p̶a̶l̶a̶b̶r̶a̶ in our conversation through WhatsApp.

  • Monospaced.- If you want a word or phrase to appear with the monospaced typeface, write it between three open accents (“`). For example, if we write "" word "it will appear in monospaced format in our conversation.

If you doubt whether the code you wrote is correct, don't worry. As you write the message, it will change once you have entered the code, and you can see the result before it is received by your friend.
How to change the WhatsApp text format with the edit menu

The second way to change the text of your WhatsApp conversation is by using the action drop-down menu. For it to appear, you will have to hold down your finger on the word you want to change until the options Copy, Paste and one with three dots appear on Android or with the bold, italic and underlined icon (BIU) on iOS.

Select the latter to bring up a new menu with which you can access the four types of text format that WhatsApp offers you. If you want to change the format of an entire phrase, you will only have to select the entire phrase once you have clicked on the word.
